History

Westview Presbyterian Church began in 1964 when the congregation at Central Presbyterian realized that in addition to outgrowing their space they were no longer centrally located as the population of Longmont had expanded west. A small group within the congregation offered to pioneer a new Presbyterian church on the western edge of the city, and Central Presbyterian bought and donated a parcel of land for the future congregation at the corner of 15th and Hover.

The church was officially chartered in 1965 with 103 members. As with all fledgling Presbyterian churches that are part of PCUSA, the Presbytery paid Pastor Frank Kuo’s salary for the first year and then a diminishing portion of the salary for two additional years, until Westview was able to fully support its pastor.

For the first several years after it was chartered, the Westview congregation met at the Seventh Day Adventist Church paying $35/week for use of the facilities, and the donated land was used by a local farmer.

When Westview celebrated its 40th Anniversary in 2005, several charter members reminisced about the first days of the church (as seen in the following video).
